Postal department�s annual loss reaches Rs 4 billion

This was revealed by Senate�s Standing Committee on postal services on Thursday.

 

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Senate’s Standing Committee on postal services revealed that Pakistan Post Department has to bear loss of rupees four billion annually.

 

The meeting of the committee was held at the parliament house under the headship of its chairman, Senator Daud Khan Achakzai here on Thursday.

 

The committee was told that an embezzlement of approximately Rs 170 million was carried out in the distribution of the amount of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in Parachanar.

 

Committee showed its dissatisfaction over the performance of Ministry of Postal Services and sought the list of the employees inducted during last five years in the ministry.

 

The committee was also informed that the ministry earmarked Rs 381 million, whereas the total number of employees are 31183, while 783 posts are lying vacant, where the recruitment is needed.

 

The high-ups of the ministry apprised the meeting that during last three years only people from Balochistan were inducted as there was a ban for the candidates of other provinces.

 

A member of the committee, Senator Kamil Ali Agha said that Ministry of Postal Service do not submit the requisite information to the Standing Committee.

 

The meeting said that the main cause of the loss is enhance in salaries of government servants and not increasing the rates of distribution of dak.
